Case History: Retail Asset Monetization

Bridal & Special Occasion Boutique:
A Formal Affair

Roswell, GA (Atlanta Metro)

When a business sale falls through, Fortis steps in with practical liquidation strategies to recover value and exit the marketplace cleanly.

Situation

A Formal Affair was a well-known bridal and formalwear boutique serving clients across the Southeast from its storefront just outside Atlanta. With hundreds of high-quality bridal gowns, prom dresses, and accessories in inventory, the owner engaged a business broker to sell the business as a going concern. However, the broker listed the business at an inflated price, severely limiting buyer interest and ultimately stalling the sale. After multiple failed attempts, the owner—facing health concerns and a desire to pursue a new career—decided to exit the business and sought to monetize the remaining inventory.

Objective

Referred by the M&A advisor involved in the stalled transaction, Fortis Business Advisors was brought in to evaluate exit options. With a traditional-style store closing sale no longer viable due to timing constraints, Fortis designed a flexible, targeted strategy to help the owner liquidate the inventory while minimizing disruption. The goal: to recover maximum value through creative bulk sale outreach and hands-on logistical support.

Results

Conducted a full valuation of over $998K in retail inventory, identifying optimal resale channels.

Created grouped listings on Facebook Marketplace and proactively marketed to other bridal retailers.

Facilitated a successful bulk purchase of all remaining inventory to one retail buyer.

Provide on-site logistical support, including customized truck loading using bungee systems to protect merchandise in transit.

Enabled to owner to receive direct payment and complete the exit with dignity, speed, and no residual inventory burden.
